Richard Branson gets into new industries when he sees something lacking, and the newest one is the cruise world. Having only ever been on one cruise, I’d have to agree there is huge room for improvement. Instead of feeling like cattle being herded into a week of completely planned fun, Virgin wants to do it differently. Instead of calling them cruises, they’ll be voyages. Instead of a gagillion people gorging on buffet after buffet, the Voyages ships will be about half the size of the biggest, only accept 18+ guests, be designed for spontaneity, and be the cleanest ships on the seas. Considering how well Virgin does everything else, I’m actually interested in cruising on one of the three ships they’ve commissioned that will sail in 2020. Pricing is not out yet, but they won’t be budget ships. You can drop a deposit of $500 to get a place in line for the first cruises.
